I've been hearing this for a week or so in NY. They are in deep debt I don't think Rick or Nas can save them either.

I REALLY THINK THAT THIS IS MESSED UP BUT I SOLEY BLAME THE MUSIC INDUSTRY FOR THIS BECAUSE EEVRYONE GOT MONEY HUNGRY AND INSTEAD OF PUTTING OUT GOOD CLASSICAL MUSIC EVERYONE WENT AFTER THE QUICK BUCK (LIKE NIGGAS THAT HUSTLE ON STREET CORNERS. AND IT CAME TO BITE EVERYONE BACK IN THE ASS. YOU ALSO HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE INDUSTRY CERTAIN ARTIST MORE THAN OTHERS LOOK AT SOULJAH BOY COMPARED TO THE ROOTS. NOW I DON'T KNWO ABOUT YOU BUT I'M NOT GOING TO BUY A SOULJAH BOY ALBUM, U CAN GET THOSE SAME HAPPY GO LUCKY BUBBLE GUM RAP SONGS ON LINE. BUT I WILL SPEND ON A REAL ALBUM, FOR INSTANCE PAC AND BIGGIE, UGK, WU TANG ETC. I WONDER WHAT RAPPERS ARE GOING RAP ABOUT WHEN THEY'RE ALL UNEMPLOYED AND OUT OF THEIR MASTERS AND PUBLISHING RIGHTS????

most of these labels have about 8 months to live. def jam ain't the only ones on life support

it ain't jays fault the whole industry is sinking. downloads, mp3's and the internet are changing the game the old business style just can't last with the technology thats growing faster than ever.

yep, I heard 50 speak about this too he said def jam is in trouble but they gonna try to save some of the bigger names like nas, mariah and ross. I think that puts some heavy pressure on those artists but anything is possible.

At 3:10 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't doubt this... the only artist who can pull them out of the hole right now is Mariah. They need new A&Rs or something because their roster is ASS. Even their "big" artists like Rihanna and Ne-Yo don't actually sell that many albums (Rihanna had the biggest song of the year, decade even, and her album is not even Platinum yet...)

Anger music is dead and it should be because it only reflected extreme ignorance sprewed from the mouths of Black males that didn't have good fathers.

I want to throw-up every time I picture race-destroying Jay Z meeting with the head of the United Nations. I wonder if he said to the leader of the world, "What's up Kofi, my dawg?

I'm the author of the book, Black Women Need Love, Too! and the lyrics in rap crap are so very rude, crude, mean, and self-defeating.

How did we think this was going to turn out O.K. for the Black race?

Oh yea! The extreme misogyny got waaaaay out of hand, too!

This is the beginning of the end of money being made from the degradation of the Black race!

I feel sorry for them. Maybe I'll buy a couple of Def Jam cd's to help them out a little...oh no wait, the moment has passed.

tuff break def jam

No doubt, Mariah is the only one that can save them right now. They should just work on making that album a good album and focus on some miracle marketing to really give it a push. Hopefully, the music will be good and people will buy it cause Def Jam needs the money right now!!!!

just in case you clowns aren't paying attention Jay-Z is worth around 600 mil so I don't think he is tripping over Def Jam.lol

actually i think the decline is the executives fault (including most recently jay). they are all more interested in jetting around the world and spending money than focusing on the changes that the industry needs to be making in order to survive. jay is a prime example. he'd rather make his increasingly mediocre music and sit courtside than direct the day-to-day affairs of a multimillion dollar company. i guess who can blame him or any of them. if i'd passed the 100m mark, i wouldn't be interested in the 9-6 ...7...8 anymore either.

Mariah's album is going to be there saving grace. If she can but another 10 million copies out there then they will be fine. The need to put all there marbles in Mariah's basket because she knows how to sell a record.
